Jinan travel guide
Jinan: "City of Springs" with elegant landscapes, historic culture, and attractions like Daming Lake and Baotu Spring.
Known as the "City of Springs", Jinan's fame is well-established with accolades echoed across Shandong province. "Lotus blossoms on three sides, willows on the other; half the city's hills, half the city's lakes" capture Jinan's unique elegance. Jinan has birthed many storied figures, like Bian Que, founder of Chinese medicine; Yin-Yang philosopher Zou Yan; Tang Dynasty founding heroes Fang Xuanling and Qin Qiong; renowned poets Li Qingzhao, Xin Qiji, Zhang Yanghao, and Li Kaixian; public library pioneer Zhou Yongnian; and famed architect Wei Xiang.
Over the centuries, literary luminaries including Li Bai, Du Fu, Su Shi, and Zeng Gong traveled and lived in Jinan, earning it the epithet “Home of Famous Scholars”.
Jinan comprises Lixia, Shizhong, Huaiyin, Tianqiao, Licheng, and Changqing districts, along with Pingyin, Jiyang, and Shanghe counties and Zhangqiu City.
Lixia District: Home to Jinan's origins and historic culture, Lixia lies south of Thousand Buddha Mountain, overlooking magnificent Daming Lake and west to the iconic Baotu Spring.
Quancheng Road: Named for Jinan's moniker "City of Springs", Quancheng Road features the city's top malls, squares, and bustling commercial center.
Best Travel Time
You can visit Jinan in spring to visit Baotu Spring and winter to visit the snowy scenery of Daming Lake. But Jinan is cold in winter and hot in summer, with strong sandstorms in spring, and the best travel time is autumn. Due to the replenishment of concentrated precipitation in July and August, the groundwater level in Jinan City has increased, and there will be a unique scene of spring water rushing out of the city at this time. Therefore, the best time to travel to Jinan is between September and November after the rainy season every year.
