Tieling, one of the 14 prefecture-level cities in Liaoning Province, is situated in the middle reaches of the Songliao Plain in northern Liaoning. Located between 123°27’-125°06’ E and 41°59’-43°29’ N, Tieling borders Shenyang City and Fushun City to the south, Siping City in Jilin Province to the north, Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County of Fushun City and Liaoyuan City in Jilin Province to the east, and Faku County and Kangping County of Shenyang City as well as Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Tongliao City to the west.
Spanning 134 km from east to west and 162 km at its widest section from north to south, Tieling covers a total area of 13,000 square km with a population of 3.02 million (2004). Surrounded by mountains, Tieling boasts beautiful natural scenery and a pleasant climate. It is an emerging hub connecting northeast China, Inner Mongolia, and North Korea.
