Just hearing the name Tongchuan gives a sense of history, located in Shaanxi Province, bordering the ancient city of Xi'an to the north and the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor and Yan'an to the south. Formerly known as Tongguan, Tongchuan lies in central Shaanxi Province, at the intersection of the Guanzhong Basin and the Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi, bordering Yan'an, Weinan and Xianyang. With convenient transportation, Tongchuan is an important part of the Guanzhong economic belt. It is a must-pass place on the way to the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor, the human ancestors' origin, and the revolutionary holy land Yan’an. Tongchuan is 68 km from downtown Xi'an and 72 km from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport. The Xi'an-Huangling Expressway runs through here, connected by the Xian-Tongchuan and Meiqi railways to the Longhai railway artery.
